1 year in and he has had enough....he should try 5 years, amazed he lasted half a year!

I've no sympathy for that guy. When he realized he was very unhappy in the country, he should have asked his company to send him home early. He's lucky he got out without having to endure a jail sentence, or some time in detention. No doubt his company helped him avoid having to face criminal charges by paying compensation to witnesses.

By contrast, very unhappy FTs behaving in similar ways would have ended up with them in serious trouble! Also, exiting the country prematurely while under contract wouldn't have been an option for many of them.
