In response to Re "Success" (Foxy)

Thanks for taking the time to share that, Foxy. There are many of us who have been involved in ESL/EFL for a long time in various ways. And, as you know, our positive impact on the lives of those we teach, or guide, or counsel is not always immediately evident, except perhaps in their obvious appreciation. So, when we have the opportunity to see such gains as you describe as the result of our input or guidance or facilitation, it is seemingly impossible not to be touched and to feel as though we may actually have accomplished something really, really, worthwhile. This harmonious relationship between our hearts and our intellects is, in my opinion, a true realization of success.

“What is success?
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch Or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
