Okay, I'll tackle that one.

What private EFL schools in China should never do is hire pretend teachers. On the other hand if you're pretending to be that which you are not, perhaps you, as a participant in a scam, deserve whatever misfortune comes your way. Therefore, I may sympathize with you, but not that much.

What private EFL schools in China should never do is pretend to be real providers of quality English training unless they have a proven track record of doing so. Do your research.

What private EFL schools in China should never be allowed to do is advertise on EFL web sites unless they have a proven and verifiable record of honesty.

What private EFL schools in China should never be allowed to do is make false promises to would be teachers; that is, they shouldn't be allowed to brag about their ability to provide work visas, suitable accommodations, competitive salaries, equatable flight reimbursements, on time and accurate payment of salaries etc. unless they have a proven track record of doing so.

Well, the truth of it all is that few private schools in China are legally operated in the first place. Before considering whether or not to work at one, it would be wise to check with the local Education Bureau to find out if they are properly licensed and registered. Most are not. The sad thing is that most first time teachers don't realize that. Nor do they realize that accountability in China cannot be compared to accountability in the West. In that context too many foreigners live in a la la world. Moreover, if private school owners and operators feel as though they can laugh at or ignore the rule of law, then it would be wise to expect that they have no moral base that would compel them to treat their teachers fairly and honestly.

Meanwhile, many of you will defend pretend teachers while at the same time condemning those who hire them. Don't you find that a bit ambiguous? Perhaps you're trying to win a popularity contest.
