In response to Is Teaching ESL a Practical Goal (Ed Holmberg)

I had no teaching experience nor did I have an EFL/TESOL certificate when I was recruited for my current school. This is my second year of teaching. Some places you can get a job easily simply by having a bachelors degree and being a native speaker of English. I will be signing on with my current school for a third year. I have seen quite a few ads that say "EFL/TESOL or 2 or more years of teaching experience required." I have many friends who teach English as a Second Language and most of them do not have EFL/TESOL certification. I guess it depends on the country you want to teach in. Initially I had looked at teaching in India, but they wanted certification or experience, so I looked elsewhere. I currently teach in China, and am enjoying myself quite a bit.
