I'm interested in teaching in China in one year or two. I have 35 years teaching English (writing and literature), including 8 years English as a Second Language (a government college in Kaduna, Nigeria; secondary school in Micronesia; and Eastern Oregon State University. My Ph.D. is in English.

My questions: Will I need TESOL certification to be allowed to teach in China? How early should I apply for teaching?

Incidentally, my wife is Chinese and will be teaching me Mandarin this year. She is a registered nurse and plans to work as such wherever I teach.
