Re: The National Day of Mourning in China

In all of my classes on Wednesday I asked my students to stand in silence for one minute as a mark of respect. I did the same for the victims of the Sichuan earthquake and also for the recent tragedy in Haiti.
In one of the staff rooms of the senior grade one teachers at the middle school on mainland where I'm teaching, I saw money being donated for a disaster fund for the Qinghai quake this morning.
I asked a Chinese teacher of English how much was being donated per teacher. She said it was between 20 Yuan and 100 Yuan. The teachers sign their names and record what they have donated. I'll donate 200 Yuan this afternoon. I suggest that we foreign teachers in China should all make donations.
