Until recently I promoted American English to my students. hen I read an article in Newsweek (March 7,2005) that really made me reconsider my opinion of what is standard English. In the world today there is no English standard. The non-native speakers outnumber us native speakers 3 to one. This means the non-native speakers are changing the language. In the future other dialects of English like "Chinglish" could be accepted standards. We may also have different forms of English, such as local dialects, professional, and international basic.
