Chinese just love institutions.

Obviously 'the party' is still the biggest of them (and is likely to be so for some time) but with more and more people in China joining the church, it's acting like a gravitational pull. People are less concerned with belief or faith and more concerned about being left on the outside.
However, even without having genuine faith it still leaves these people open to picking up some pretty stupid ideas about life and the world in general. Here's one i heard recently

"the West has less wars than other parts of the world because it's Christian"

Oh dear!
