Re Beijing Foreign Studies University

however I have never believed that such posts should be deleted

The mods seem to have a bit of a "pick and mix" attitude when it comes to posts.

But let's see...I make a post expressing my sorrow at innocent people killed by a german maniac who should never have been allowed to drive a taxi, let alone fly a plane, and I get not ONE response from any one poster on these boards. Yeah, that is me holding my temper.....my last post on these boards, and the mods will know, as I am in Hong Kong, so any handle with a ip from wifi or a public location there will show. Good luck in China....I hear India will overtake them in 10 years, and then you may end up opening your coffeeshop there when the bubble bursts, and it will.

Bit late hahaha! I have been outed and forced to use my own name; however I have never believed that such posts should be deleted and just because it's me I don't believe it now. No, it goes with the territory, although I wish it had never happened. I should have been more careful.

As for you, just concentrate on getting a good job. Hold your temper and keep it. I wish you well.

Sorry, I was rather unstable then.

I still maintain that your usage of gay is strange on an ESL board. You are certainly an eccentric character.

I don't know about eccentric San Migs but I am certainly determined that I will not be blackmailed because somebody knows a bit about me. I have joked about it but you like to seriously track people down and find out about them, and you are prepared to put time in to do it. I think I'd sooner just be eccentric. I've tried to help you and actually offered you real help and not just advice, all to no avail.

Sling your hook back to China, dilley

Not all that stable are we; there was nothing in that post you answered having a go at you one little bit. I've said before i have no skeletons in my cupboard and it wouldn't be disastrous if all my details were publicised. Sober up please.

Good questions to be sure, San Migs. But I think you'll agree that you should portray yourself in a gay and compliant tone. You have to get it right and not try and sell yourself for your assertiveness. When you have the main demands (gay tone gay tone) you must be prepared to spend a lot of time ironing out the contract- but in a friendly fashion.

My first questions would be can you get me a work visa, and will you pay for my travel up to Beijing. The rest is petty talk.

Best not to waste any time with the whys and the wherefores, you are clearly not going to get that gig. Recruiters can be useful but in your case you don't need one; just get internetcalls.com and phone these universities yourself "Do you have a vacancy? My name is Bob." You should say in Mandarin.

Hi,

I'm a newbie and would welcome some constructive feedback.

For just over 3 weeks, emails were exchanged between the recruiter, myself who then liaised with Beijing Foreign Studies University. I had my Skype interview and was asked to prepare a 20 mins mock lesson plan. For the first 5 minutes or so, I could see the interviewer from HR. She was clearly surprised that I was Chinese with a UK passport. Shortly after, I faced a blank screen for the entire interview.

For my lesson plan, I was given 3 pages from an e-book with very simple words, 'we like to fish' etc. I then prepared and submitted my lesson plan and materials. I spent a lot of time gathering the materials for my teaching e.g making flash cards, lesson plan briefing (step by step guide as if it's for a substitute teacher) etc. A week or so later, the recruiter informed me that the Uni has decided not to progress with my application because they already have interviewed other candidates or lined up interviews in the pipeline.

I understand the recruiter intend to bring the matter up with senior management but his view is not optimistic at all.

Is this a common practice in China i.e the length of time it has taken from the interview to 'the door in the face?' Is the latter a common feature amongst employers in China esp amongst Chinese management? Does anyone ever worked for Beijing Foreign Studies University and can provide both favourable and unfavourable feedback?

Many thanks.
