Mongolian teaching is centered in Ulaan Baator. This is the largest city in Mongolia. Because of the decline of the economy in recent years there is a great number of homeless in UB. Thousands live in the drainage system and many are pickpockets, thieves, and bag slashers. There is also a great number of prostitutes walking the streets.

UB is a drab city with brutal winters. The infrastructure is poor and the "roads" are usually muddy with many puddles. There are no international markets but many local food markets.

Reports of persons being attacked on the street by teenagers seeking money from foreigners are common. There is a scam where a foreigner will go to the money changer and see a roll on the ground outside the door. The roll is paper covered on the outside by one Tugrik note. If a person picks it up they are immediately stopped by someone claiming it's theirs and a "policeman" then shows up threatening the victim with arrest. This is for quick extortion. FYI.
