The Residence Permit distinction is especially nice to know. Schools can have your Residence Permit cancelled at any time...but only if they have it in their Kung Fu grip!

As long as you keep your Residence Permit away from them, the school legally can't cancel it (despite likely threats to the contrary), and the permit remains good until it times out or is replaced by one from another school.
