"Internet Commenting" is a modern form of communication that some like and some dislike. This fine form of sharing information may be distorted by a variety of characters with their interests in; however, it should always be regarded as the media to reckon with. Depending on NY Times, The Guardian or China Daily for example, could give too much power to some and misinform many. So, I'd let a free flow of information coming and allow all people be the judges of what is good or bad, right or wrong, or appropriate or inappropriate. Not to let all believe that informing people online is "thrilling" or "trolling" ought to be on our agenda here. Sites like this one are, or should be, a source of information for teachers who travel around the world to help many learn.

NYT article: "The Thrill of Political Hating" by Arthur C. Brooks

Although it is an article about political hate (that the author classifies under 3 groups: Hot hate, Cool hate and Anonymous hate), it has an interesting paragraph about trolls, a topic that is often mentioned on this forum:

[...] consider a 2014 article in the academic journal Personality and Individual Differences, titled “Trolls Just Want to Have Fun.” Three Canadian psychologists found that habitual Internet commenting is strongly correlated with hateful personality pathologies. The total amount of time spent posting comments online correlated positively with sadism, psychopathy and Machiavellianism. And this held especially true for those who relished “trolling,” the anonymous posting of negative and destructive comments. The 5 percent of participants who listed trolling as their favorite activity earned the highest scores on those unsavory psychological measures.
