I used to discuss things like this with some educated Muslim friends and I stated that there is nothing in the Koran about male martyrs going to heaven to be greeted by 42 young virgin girls and that this appeared in a hadith or scholarly 'interpretation' (there's that word again). I told my friends that there was a possibility that the interpretation may be wrong and that the martyr could meet a 42-year old virgin. They smiled.
