"Hey! You are a Foreigner? I'm a Foreigner too! Let's be friends!" is basically what Chinese expect/believe from us. How many times I was moved to the same office with other Foreigners while I was having a nice relation with the Chinese staff, and the boss said "But, it's so you can socialize with them, you are both Foreigners so you should be friends" yeah right, even though I had nothing else in common with these people beside both of us being Foreigners.
