Canada is along the same lines. Don't be caught in the working poor level in Canada though because its almost like its designed so that a person absolutely cannot lift themselves out of that. The costs, taxes, fees, living requirements outrun any climbing a working poor can do in Canada so its almost better to go down and out into homelessness. We joke that working poor people in Canada should just stop grinding it out at the local 'shit-for-pay-fuck-you' jobs, exit the country, shred visa, return to Canada and claim to be a Syrian refugee. You are (seriously) a huge step up and no more 'you-had-your-chance' attitudes.
Don't be very rich or well-off in Canada either. Holy shit they will tax the living hell out of people and I can't help but notice all our super-success stories end up going to the USA at some point.
But yes middle-class is great but here's the funny comparison: Become homeless in a Vancouver or Toronto. Hey, even if you hate drugs start doing heroin or something addicting. Okay, now stand on a street corner and the small parades of 'charity relief' groups from churches galore to every inner-city charity will give you better clothes than you can buy in China, more sandwiches and food of better quality and safety, you will go to a homeless shelter that will seriously be cleaner and safer and better organized and treated with more respect than you would in a more expensive Chinese hotel. seriously. the charity medicine, the hospital, the soup kitchens, the 'help the homeless rock concerts' will all be cleaner, safer and have LESS people spitting phlegm balls on the sidewalk than the richest neighbourhood in China.
Ive never been to Australia but Im getting the idea its pretty much along the same lines. I feel like even the Australian homeless tent city on some beach somewhere is actually cleaner living, more safe and orderly than you-know-where.
