Re carry-on baggage

Absolutely!

Finally someone who has enhanced critical thinking skills.

I also found this board by a google search related to an intended employer I was dealing with and whilst there is a smattering of useful information, the vast majority of it is rhetorical.

I was not saying this board is solely about China. I came across it related to China and that is what I am concerned with. I and am sure many others don't have the time or the need to trawl through threads which gradually deviate from the original topic and produce speculative answers. In fact most threads recently have culminated in a slanging match with differing opinions from the 'big three' but not any concrete solution, largely because it is likely they realistically don't have one.

If I was a moderator I would simply generate a seperate posting area for China but I am not.

Our opinions are obviously based on historical evidence.

I think that is what "Phil" was referring too. Sometimes we need evidence based on facts that are current particularly in relation to China. A lot of people find this board through searches related to intended employment (I know I did) and one of the first things I noticed was a bunch of people ranting about this and that but not really giving real insight into things happening now. This is of significant importance to those in or intending to be in China as things change in a short space of time.

BTW, this board is not just about China, ESL is not just about China.

I don't think anyone said it was. It's just point of fact that many people come onto this board with issues pertaining to China so of course this gets the most hits.
