That is something I cannot disagree with. ESL speakers use pragmatism whilst NES often simply use 'instinct'.

It's also true that quite often ESL speakers know WHY we say something in English, yet NES cannot explain the reason in the same way

But I guess this scenario is pretty much the same for any native speaker Vs a non-native (of any language)
