PhD teacher,
I appreciate your concern and certainly don't want to make the lives of retired teachers that are living in China more difficult. While militant is a stretch, it does seem that other methods of warning teachers (and the authorities that should be scrutinizing and interfering with the illegal activities of companies preying on Westerners, teachers in the broader sense, students and even Chinese schools) would be more suitable. Hopefully the retired FTs are doing their part to share what they have learned with newer teachers to help them avoid getting into trouble in China as well.

As for financial issues between FTs and Chinese women, it would be good to know there is some enforcement and protection there too if legal boundaries are crossed.

Fair enough, thanks for your reply.

That may not be such a good tactic in China, it may be seen as breaching the peace rather
than legitimate protest. Leaking a dossier of professionally translated evidence to the
media may be more effective. Chinese people need to know that it is not always
foreigners themselves that are responsible for illegal employment, but their so called
employers.

You do have a point here, John. I'm not sure on the legality of distributing or posting information publicly (in the traditional sense) in China and certainly wouldn't want anyone to risk legal trouble. The goal is to expose and stop illegal activity. Leaking the essential points of what Worlda has been doing to the media is a good idea. If anyone has any suggestions about a media outlet that might be open to a story about an illegally operating Chinese employer, please let me know.

If some posters or brochures were to turn up around places in Guangzhou, it might help spread the word (in both English and Chinese). Of course, I'd be willing to help create the material :D

Those sort of militant tactics just make things harder for Western people trying to live or work in China. It persuades the authorities to scrutinise and interfere and impairs the freedom of Westerners. You take that Odd Job poster, the police want to treat him like something from the 1950's. Maybe he will be under a 2100 hours curfew when he gets his residence permit. And it all may be the fault of retired militant FT's stirring things. We really should concentrate on making retired financially independent FT's with a little money aware of the money-grabbing attitude of some Chinese women who will leave them flat broke.

No, if you start printing out fly-posters and daubing slogans everywhere, it'll be bad for all of us.
