Well at 52 years of age there is no way this UK guy will attract a young Chinese women, not on 5000 rmb a month.

Jesus, if he has a degree and is white why the hell does he not haggle more with the Chinese. When I left China, at the beginning of December 2013, my previous jobs were 8,000 rmb a month (in rural sichuan, 1.5 hours to chengdu),7,000 a month in an area outside of Nanjing, they wanted to pay 6 but after 1 month they upped it to 7....not much bargaining needed,even at the second job. 5,000 is really low, esp for a city like Nanning I feel. Now in 2016 I think no FT, esp one with a wife, should accept less than 10-12,000 rmb.....china is more expensive and stressful visa wise these days. Thanks for the reply.
