Although this golden week holiday falls well in the calendar from Monday to Friday, it seems employers take advantage of the poor labor laws enforcement in the country. Schools plan sports games for the last two days in September, considering those days as off work days. This gives some employers an explanation that teachers must be back to work on either 4th or 5th of October. I guess few up in the powerful offices wanted to see the holiday to start on the coming Saturday and end one week later on Sunday giving the poor hard working people 9 days off work. For us, the foreign teachers, this is China that we can leave at any time we wish; however, for locals this is the country where they are from and where they are left with little to choose from.
