I forgot to say that here you can usually carry in beer even if they sell it in any restaurant, and when the manager of that Muslim restaurant was angry, I left at once. I think the problem he had was with the consumption of alcohol on the premises, not with my attempted carry-in of same per se.

Muslim dishes in China are halaal food. Some of the big hotels here have both a Muslim restaurant and a Chinese restaurant.

Do not ask for pork/ham dishes in Muslim reataurants. The pig is regarded as a sacred animal in their religion and therefore should not be killed/eaten.
