In the fiscal year 2011-12, more than 25,000 Chinese people obtained permanent residence in
Australia. Most of them were from the new middle classes. Then in late 2012 Australia
launched a “significant investor” visa, aimed at China’s super-rich. To get one,
people need A$5m ($4.6m) to sink in “qualifying” investments. After investing for
four years, successful applicants can apply for permanent residence. The visas are called “subclass 188” and “subclass 888”. As the number eight
represents luck and prosperity in Chinese culture, the visa’s main target is obvious.
More than 90% of 702 applicants so far have been Chinese.
Absolutely! For the last 4 consecutive years, Australia has been the official 'most expensive country in which to live'.
A recent study compared the general 'cost-of-living', in several countries, to America.
America was charted at 100%.
China came in at 55% (so 45% cheaper than America)
New Zealand and Canada came in at 125% (so 25% more expensive than America)
Britain came in at 111%
Australia came in at a whopping 163% ! Essentially three times the cost in China!
Renting an average 3bed 1bath house in Perth costs, on average, around $500 per week.
When I moved there in 2000, we'd quit work for the day when we'd earned $200, because $1000 a week gave us a great lifestyle. Nowadays, $1500 a week isn't enough.
China may be 'shitty', but when you do 'the numbers', earning 3000 per week and paying around 10% of that in rent.....I rest my case, M'lud.
to bring even more people in here. It is beyond
stupidity!
You seem to have room for the rich.
