Re sorry Sarte

This is an excellent post. I share your thoughts exactly.

Chinese text books are a joke, IMHO, and often riddled with mistakes.

Whoever is likely to win this season's X-Factor is far more important than the possibility of Trump starting WWIII.

People cannot lift their head up from their smartphone for a nanosecond, preferring instead to live in their own pathetic 'bubble'.

Then, of course, ESL teachers get the blame for not 'teaching' them when in fact, the kids don't have the time or inclination to learn anything other than how to get the highest score on the latest computer game.

Quite sad really.

sorry Sarte

Imagine being a college student now. Textbooks are no longer a primary source of information. Your dad's copy of the NT Times or The Times no longer covers the coffee table on Sunday. TV 'news' discusses Mariah Carey's inadequate sound system and more than adequate derriere.

The internet is a cesspool. Finding genuine data online is akin to searching for your wife's engagement ring after your toddler flushes it.

In the university, even the most diligent students struggle to credentialize while using the internet as a resource. Evaluating the quality of information in your native language is difficult enough; in a second language it is nearly impossible.

In China, English textbooks are of poor quality and outdated. Government English language sites are pedantic. The ESL teacher in the university must be able to provide Western websites and sources that are legitimate, require moderate English language ability and do not require VPN access.
