My first car was to impress a Harrow laundry girl from North Devon. A black thing with a
handle in the passengers side for manual operation of the wipers if it rained. The car
cost £2 and 10 shillings and had no brakes. My first outing I crashed into the back
of.....possibly a Ford Anglia at a junction. I managed one date with the laundry girl
and acted like an idiot by imagining she would want to slum it and taking her to a rough
workman's cafe where an Irishman urinated against the bottom of the serving hatch while
the cook cooked his eggand sausages. I was very young.
