Re Let's get back to a serious question

Turnie, I am well aware of that, however, different things can be interpreted in as many different ways as our brain will allow us to differentiate them.

The somewhat simple example that I highlighted is something I often relate to when a Chinese student asks me, for example, why do we say an alarm clock goes OFF, when it's actually coming ON? Why can we see when the sun's OUT yet we can't see when the lights are OUT?

If there were ten students in the classroom and 6 LEFT, why are there 4 'LEFT'?

Don't take it so seriously. Language can seem to be as 'stupid' as we want it to seem.
