Re: a screw loose, expression

I know at least 3 people who have been boycotting metric since it was imposed in Canada (back in the 1960's i think). It's quite a mental exercise to drive from the US to Canada: Immediately after the border, you drive in kilometers and no longer in miles (when I drive in the US, I know when I am doing 60 mph without having to look at the odometer, but with Canada's 100 km/hr speed limit I have no idea). Gasoline is sold by the liter and not by the gallon, so that the fuel economy on my car is now a quantity of kilometers per liter (no more gas per mile). You step on a scale and yeah! you immediately lost more than half your weight. The weather forecast is in C instead of F. Tall men are no longer 6'5" (they are something else). It's not a metric thing but the Canadian dollar is now worth 75 cents (it's a good thing, you can spend 25% more on dinner).
