I managed to locate a fellow foreigner actually teaching at the university now and he assures me it's a decent enough place to live and teach. I actually sorta like grubby little towns. I'm not a big city guy. My home town has only 2000 people. I'm also an unabashed beach lover, which was a big motivating factor in taking the posion in the first place. Thanks for the post.
