Re: Options for me to get back to Korea?

From what I've read it isn't a good idea to teach illegally or teach with no BA in Korea. You can get tossed out of the country for teaching black or you may end up teaching as an assistant in a dung patch with very low pay. Maybe you can get over to China and take an ESL class, from there you can go to many locales to teach. Maybe get a Celta if you can afford it and the cert will take you to different places. you won't have to wait 3-4 years cuz the classes are only 6-8 weeks, but they can be pricey.

My suggestion would be to post your resume on the Resumes board of a site like this one, and see what happens.

Options for me to get back to Korea?

I found this site via a google search, so hopefully someone can help me out.

I just finished a 3-month charity stint in Seoul, and I have completely fallen in love with Korea. The food, the people, the city and its security are all just entirely amazing. I've been back in the U.S. for just four days, and I'm already 'homesick' for Seoul. (The food here is atrocious!)

I'm starting to research ways for me to get back there ASAP. I understand that teaching English is big, but I don't have a bachelor's degree. :(

My options I'm considering are:
option 1)Go to school at home to earn a degree in teaching (something I was intending to do when I got back anyways, only I was going to try to teach science to grade school children.) Then, after 3-4 years, I can return.

option 2)Go to school a term or two here at home, focus on Korean language studies (I can read Hangeul and speak enough Korean to get around, but I'm nowhere near fluent) and then try to transfer as an exchange student.

option 3)Try to get back to Korea via any teaching job I can land (I've been told it's possible for a non-grad to do, though the work may not be the best in the world) and wing it from there.

My problems with my options:
option 1)I don't want to wait 4 years to return to Korea! I've never missed being in a place in my life, and I'm finding out how un-fun it is!

option 2)Would it be possible for me to find work and accommodations as I go to school in order to survive once I get there?

option 3)I've heard some real horror stories about some of the places that scavenge non-grads to teach English. But once there, I might be able to work my way to something more desirable, and even go ahead and get my degree there. The bottom line is, I'd be back within 6-12 months.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I'm overlooking another way? Just how hard (or easy) would it be for me to find work? Websites and literature would be great, if you know of any I should look into.

Thanks in advance,

Ray
