Re: Unfinished Contract

"Unless they have red flagged your name following information from the PSB, you can leave without hindrance."
Red-flagging your name is a distinct possibility. How do you know your employer won't do so once he discovers that you've broken your contract by departing without first having had the decency to cancel it with him?
Having Chinese documents taken from you when you exit the country as per above,in line with this thread's heading, wouldn't scare the kind of person who would act in such a dishonest way.And most probably he wouldn't be needing them in the future anyway.
Note that Turnoi's request for information from this thread's originator has fallen on deaf ears up to now, certainly not the first time such a thing has happened on this board. Most likely the originator feels he can solve his problem,if any, without any additional advice.

Re: Unfinished Contract

Turino writes: "At the airport, said paperwork, your residents' permit and your foreign experts' certificate will be taken from you."

This is a prime example of misleading information either through ignorance or a wish to scare.
First of all, a current Residence Permit in ones passport acts as a multiple entry/exit visa. Provided that it is in date, a person is free to travel to and from China at will. How for instance would the airport immigration officer know that you are breaking your contract ? Unless they have red flagged your name following information from the PSB, you can leave without hindrance. The most that will happen is a cancellation stamp will be placed on your RP should they be aware that you have not complied with your obligations.

If you are intending to leave your school go home and not return, do so without advising the school. The Foreign Expert Certificate belongs to the school or employer so leave it in your apartment or post it back to them from the airport.

Should you be intending to simply change jobs or return to China, other advice will be relevant.

Re: Unfinished Contract

Your employer will issue you with the necessary paperwork so that you can exit China legally. At the airport, said paperwork, your residents' permit and your foreign experts' certificate will be taken from you. Then get on the plane, and breathe a sigh of relief.
Or,if you're game for a fresh start with a new Chinese employer, get a job offer fast, and said employer will do the necessary, hopefully,to get a new residents' permit for you in your new city,or get your current one altered to show your new employment details in the city in which you've been teaching and extend or replace it as and when necessary.
I hope you've got the gist.
A word of warning:under no circumstances try to depart China without first agreeing with your employer to terminate your contact - if you do that, you'll get grief at the airport!

Unfinished Contract

Good day to all. I am still a greenhorn in China and have lots of questions that needs straight answers. One such question is what happens if a foreign teacher does not complete his/her contract and resigns from the school that employs him/her?
