Re: What can I expect?

Thanks for clarifying things in relation to other countries.

Apologies, I really didn't make it clear that I was only writing about my own currency - Sterling. When I first came to work in China the exchange rate was almost 15 Yuan to 1. Today it is 9.3. The strength of the currency seems to be impacting on some Chinese exports, and although some of this can be attributed to the global downturn, and reaction to the various product scandals, I just look at how much I have now.

Re: What can I expect?

I look at the exchange rate every day, and the strength of the Yuan means effectively we are working for less money.

Not sure that this is the case Linguist. The strength of the Yuan means that if you convert the cash into another currency, say USD, Euros, Aus$ or GB pounds, you get more of those currencies not less for your Yuan when returning home for your holidays etc.
Last year an average? salary of 6000Yuan would have bought you 600 Euros, today you will receive 690 Euros. Lets hope the Yuan stays strong as all the major currencies are getting weaker day by day.
