Re: Teaching English in Davao

Hi,
For employment, your age will work against you in many circumstances.
Have you visited the Philippines? You may be able to find a position training call center agents. Although Filipinos do learn English, many of them can only mimic without understanding English.
Hope this helps.
Btw, what made you choose Davao for retirement?

Teaching English in Davao

Hi,

I am a semi-retired American guy (62) and will be moving to Davao in early 2010. I'm on social security but could do with some more income and want to fill my day with some worthwhile, meaningful work.

I taught English for about 6 months in early 80's in Tokyo. The school is no longer around so I have no referencable entity/person for this job. However, I have a great deal of business experience in IT sales and exec management. I also have a BA in Journalism from University of Wisconsin-Madison. I would say my main skills/gifts are my Irish personality, outgoing attitude, and excellent work ethic.

My questions to anyone with an opinion on teaching English in Davao: will my age (even though I am active, energetic and in excellent health) and lack of experience prevent me from finding teaching work in Davao?

Many thanks,

terence from texas
