Re: Nanning, is all China like this?

Hi,
I have lived in Nanning on a college campus for over 1 year.
It takes time to adjust to life here so don't give up!
Of course the students are shy at first and it's up to you to make friends with them and with other people. If you're at the main Uni then try to 'mix' with the other teachers, they should know where to go locally. I find the people of Nanning very friendly, helpful and far from boring!
Plenty to do in 'The Green City' if you've got the time to explore this paradise. As for girlfriends etc, I've never met anyone yet who hasn't found the women of Nanning absolutely beautiful but treat them with the respect they deserve. Give it time ..... maybe you'll never want to go home like many of us!

Nanning, is all China like this?

Hi, I am new to China and I have just started work a few weeks ago at a place called Nanning in Guangxi province. I did a lot of research before I moved here and I thought that this was one of the more friendly provinces in China. What a mistake! People here do not smile, the students are painfully shy, the Chinese here can't even look you in the eye when you speak to them ( I can speak a lot of Chinese )

I feel very disapointed and now worried that it will be hard to have a social life here. As for finding a girlfriend or wife, I don't like my chances.

Is all China like this? Or have I just signed up in the dullest city in Asia?
