A hagwon to put on your blacklist is YBM ELS Daegu in Suseong-gu. One of the oldest hagwons in the city, it is currently managed by a smug, lazy, and arrogant Canadian whose maltreatment of foreign teachers filters down to the Korean staff also. The school is overstaffed, the student numbers are pathetic, and the academic director cannot plan. Teachers often have to work Saturdays also to get in their 30 hours per week. This director hands out plum and well-paid overtime hours to his friends, people who are not even on staff. There is no support from the Korean staff, and many of them are nasty and aggressive. Teachers are provided with next to no support. A few A-hole Canadians are buddies with the director, and they receive good shifts and often finish early in the day, even though their classes are off the cuff and represent their interests and not the students. This is par for the school, for why wouldn't students want to listen to donkeys bray about booze, motorcycles, and transvestites. If you do not want to be embarrassed by your school, stay away from ELS Daegu.
