It will be harder for you, with a US/Canadian passport to get a work visa than for EU citizens, so unfortunately deference does indeed go to brits in this case. EU citizens have the right to live and work anywhere within the EU, more or less.
Still, its worth trying.

Teaching in Europe
I'm hoping to get feedback from some real overseas ESL pros. I'm an ESL/English teacher in the U.S. and I want to secure a teaching spot in Europe. What are my chances? As I understand it, since the advent of the European Union and Euro, openings always go to Brits. Is that right? Does anyone have a real good feel about this? - Thanks, Wayne
