@ silverboy: These are some fair points. I wouldn't really say Guangxi is dirty so much, I actually enjoyed Yangshuo, never been to Nanning so can't comment on that locale. Guangzhou is a dirty city however, I don't really see anything to recommend it, with the habit of throwing food in the streets, haze due to ongoing construction and traffic pollution.

Like you I am used to the food and language in China. I love the fact that due to all the minorities and regions there are so many different types. I would find it hard to have to adapt to a new asian country like Thailand or Vietnam.
