Chengdu has too many foreigners. There is too much competition among them for local teaching jobs. So, don't go there. Maybe you couldn't get a temporary or a parttime job teaching there. As for the local lingo, it's not standard Chinese like Beijing Chinese is.

I'm currently a full-time Chinese language student in Wuhan and I work part-time for a few of the various chain english schools in the area. I'd like to move to Chengdu and study at Sichuan Uni but I'm not sure about the teaching scene. Is consistent part-time work difficult to find or what's the deal? I'd happily sign a contract at a school (thinking mostly of a university here as opposed to a private training school) if the classes were in the afternoon. So, any ideas? Also, any comments on general living costs would be appreciated.
