Re An Urgent Plea for Help

True. But wouldn't Chinese be flying en masse to Aus, the UK, Canada if they could get paid and a free flat for just opening their mouth for 14-16 classes a week....of course they would.

China reaps what it sows, I have no qualms about going back, working an easy public gig, drinking 1 kuai beer bottles, paying 20 rmb to older women for massages, and eating cheap good food....there is nothing for me back in the UK, and women there have an appalling entitlement mentality.

Re An Urgent Plea for Help

I met a guy in Beijing ready to board the train with 100rmb in his pocket the other day. Defies belief, but also adds credence to comments from Chinese that think English teachers are just people that are unemployable in their own countries.

The guy's relatively young, a fair bit off of forty.

At 40 a man shouldn't have just 15 rmb in his pocket and his laptop, and no, I'm not a conservative, but I do support being independent...who the bad word is going to help him? In China, you are your own friend, end of!!!

WTF....seven years and nothing in his pockets?

Hi there, Dude! WTF? Maybe he did, and oftentimes. The guy's relatively young, a fair bit off of forty.
In China, it could well be that all his pay has gone on 'wine, women and song'. A Western male can be relieved of his hard-earned, or maybe easy-earned, pretty quickly in a Karaoke bar. Maybe he likes the night life and the ladies of the night! Your guess is as good as mine. Anyway, good luck to him. I reckon by his never-say-die attitude that he'll be back once he has sorted his financial problems out in Kiwiland.

China: An Urgent Plea for Help

This is on Dave's ESL cafe board, HK forum:

Currently I'm in Beijing, China with only 5 days to leave China. The Visa/Exit police have canceled my current visa and asked me to go back to New Zealand. I was cheated by an agent here in Beijing leaving me with little money, no job, my passport nearly filled up with visa's so needing a new passport. My embassy are trying to send me home, but cant pay for me go back home. I prefer go to Hong Kong, than face detention in Beijing next Wednesday. My embassy are insistent I don't go to Hong Kong but go straight home, but after the family abuse I faced when I was younger it's something I dont want to face. If anyone can help me in Hong Kong please email me. I really want to get on my feet and get back to China as soon as possible, not be forced to go home. I worry that by next Wednesday it's too late and I end up being locked up in Beijing and deported. I never want to face this. I have been working in china for nearly 7 years, have TESOL but no degree. There are many offers of work in China but Im unable to do anything now due to being forced to leave.
Im rather scared, not happy with the fact my embassy is forcing me to take the advice and go home, with the risk of not being able to raise the money for the air ticket home. They will not pay for my flight home, I must raise that money myself, but they can help call people on my behalf, friends family etc.
