WHAT?! Are you serious? - ESL discussion

Are there actually people out there who pay this kind of money? Who and where are they? Good grief. If this is actually a real situation I will jump into a pirahna tank wearing nothing but bacon underwear. Maybe. And could we all know where this place is so that some of their generosity could be pointed in our direction? THANKS...

Any highly secret program? - ESL discussion

Which specialised subject area are you going to teach for 21,000 Yuan monthly?

Thank you for reply.

not 2,021 RMB! - ESL discussion - ESL discussion

Some people who work for western concerns will be getting much more than this. Dont assumme that everyone is working for chinese wages, many are on western wages and extra pay for hardship (ie being posted abroad). A UK teacher for instance gets about 20 thousand pounds a year times that by 15 for chinese money and thats just a newly qualified teacher.

Get real - ESL discussion

> Yes its 21k RMB, but for a specialised subject area

1)Average salaries for foreign English teachers to the city (center) you are going is 6,000 to 7,000 RMB, 30 to 40 hrs a week. Best in China.

2)"specialised subject area" All foreign English teachers in China are in the same pot. I'd known many with PhD/Masters in English or their respective fields from well known Univ. Harvard, Cambridge (UK) and companies like Microsoft..... Max salary, 8K RMB per month.

3) Let me guess? you're making in the UK 10K pounds a week and prince Charles is your best friend.

I think the public understands that those people like you are trying to create such a perception because theyre denying who they are.

Do you mean 2,021 RMB a month? - ESL discussion

21K RMB a month for teaching English sound like a big lie.

You lucky bastard - ESL discussion

That's an amazing amount. I got friends in Shanghai who have been there for 4 years, speak advanced Chinese and work in the business sector, they make about 13,000 a month, and they had to really work their way up to that amount by learning Chinese. Dont worry, enjoy yourself!!

30hr week - ESL discussion

Hi guys
Thanks for getting back to me, I would be working a 40 hr week with 25-30 hrs a week teaching a specialist subject at a college, but this pay would have to support my partner as well as myself, could we do it and still be comfortable? what about the remains of my fabulous debt of student loans? storage in the uk for belongings etc?

What? - ESL discussion

21,000rmb? That's almost seven times what I make. You can easily have 2 wives here and raise loads of kids and still live like a king.

But the biggest problem is,
1)Will the school actually pay you the amount?
2)How many hours of teaching will you get?

Be wary, some schools out there cannot be trusted. They may give you newbies in China the run around. It's best to do a research on the school. Some old hands do not even make half of that in Shanghai.

Good Luck
