and you can transfer to other locations internally without issue.

EF have a dismal record in China.

Transferring locations? Are they covering your relocation expenses?

Better to work at a public gig with less hours and less stress. EF, wotcha, not even gonna bovva mate!

I'm just saying that working in a chain doesn't always have to be a negative experience.

And I'm just saying here and now that swimming across a river full of crocodiles doesn't always have to be a negative experience. If those beasts happen not to be hungry when you start your swim, you'll reach the opposite bank intact!

Re: Gold Star TEFL Recruitment

I got an interview at York School of Foreign Languages through Gold Star TEFL Recruitment and eventually got offered a position there. It is a private language institution in Fuzhou, China. Gold Star TEFL Recruitment did also get me a few interviews at a few EF Schools, which are hit or miss. EF is a chain, so how good the school is really depends on the specific branch. There are advantages to working at a chain... they tend to offer career advancement opportunities, continuing education, and you can transfer to other locations internally without issue. My main tutor at my CELTA program originally worked for an EF school in Poland for a year before transferring to an EF school in Prague, which also paid for her to get her DELTA. She said the one in Poland was not that great, but that from that position she was able to get better jobs. Not that I'm saying it will work out that way for everyone else, I'm just saying that working in a chain doesn't always have to be a negative experience.

Anyways, I've heard of horror stories, so I just wanted to share my positive one. I am very happy with Gold Star TEFL Recruitment. They were honest and upfront and very responsive. I would recommend them to anyone.

Re: Gold Star TEFL Recruitment

I have this week had an `interview` with EF that has left me rather dubious. All that one can say about the girl`s grasp of English was that it is better than my Mandarin. She wanted to ask me the typical run of the mill ridiculous questions teachers are subject to; eg How would you plan a typical lesson? (define `typical` and in which topic and level of progress within the subject/topic?), How do you maintain control in the classroom? (Duh! Depends on the class/school/age range/social environment etc. etc etc) All of which are depressingly familiar to any professional teacher who has faced a selection panel of (mostly) well meaning ignorant amateurs who delude themselves into thinking they are making some real contribution to the next generation`s education. A serious further hitch in EFs method of interviewing was the fact that I was apparently limited to a mere three words per question! Three words! Somehow I do not think I am going to bother. How has anyone else found English First please?

Wonderful jobs? All the jobs I can see there are at EF and Perfekkt English (Perfect Chinglish), businesses - no real schools!
Who would want to work for EF or Perfekkt Chinglish at the bottom of the barrel in Chinese ESL? Only Western losers would who have nowhere else to go to find something better!
Phhhhewwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gold Star TEFL Recruitment

I just got a wonderful job in China through Gold Star TEFL Recruitment and wanted to share this with the ESL community. They are a great FREE recruitment agency that assists teachers in the job finding process. I particularly liked the Talking CV. Instead of just posting a resume, you also record yourself answering questions... and the video appears in the left hand corner of the screen where your resume is. In my opinion, this really gives you a leg up from your competition and also serves as a pre-interview. It also helped me think about why I wanted a job in China so that during my actual interview I was able to answer all the questions with ease. I honestly cannot recommend this agency more. They went above and beyond to ensure that I had plenty of options to choose from, and checked in just the right amount to verify my progress in the job hunt. Very responsive, very helpful, and completely free. If you come across Gold Star TEFL Recruitment, don't hesitate to use them: they are actually really helpful! If you have ANY doubts, please feel free to contact me
