Re: Teacher looking for work in Medellin, Colombia

I strongly suggest you consider a job at your nearest fast food place where you are, at least you will get pay and get some free or discounted fast food.

Re: Teacher looking for work in Medellin, Colombia

Expect to make around 650usd to 950usd a month full time, does not include accommodation, meals or any benefits. a good meal can cost you around 6 to 8 dollars...there are no job security, you can be fired-replaced anytime without warning.. best you can do is to have many options and meet with other schools. don't expect much free lancer - tutoring, local english teachers are charging very little for that these days. don't expect to recover any money owed to you for your teaching, move on as quickly from the place that owes you money and try to at least get a reference, which is not that necessary anymore. Important, the lower your expectations are the better. do NOT count in any local authority to get your hard working money, keep always cash in case you have to leave in a rush for any reason. Don't give your passport to anyone. do not believe anything that any native english teacher tells you of how good the school is, you are 100% expandable and easy to rip off and replace. This is a nice country, but it's also the third world, anyone who do anything bad to you is actually the victim and you are the one at fault..most employers will pretend not to understand why you are supposed to be paid at all, why you are not just a teacher-volunteer whom should be enjoying your time there and the great things their country has to offer. Expect to be ripped off not once, but many times, just smile and learn to live with it..and last, I strongly suggest you consider a job at your nearest fast food place where you are, at least you will get pay and get some free or discounted fast food.
Just in case you still want to try,

Here’s a short list of the schools in Medellin:

Teacher looking for work in Medellin, Colombia

Hello,
I was born and raised in the United States so I am fluent in oral and written American English. I am a recent college graduate with a BA in Spanish Language and Literature and also have a TEFL certification. I am in search for schools to apply to in Medellin, Colombia and am wondering if anyone knows of any schools that I could apply to, or just basic information about the schools in Medellin.
Thank you,
Ryan Roberts
