LOL...that's nice

This one happened inside my classroom with my freshmen (high school).
It wasn't a joke, just something that made me smile.
Me: okay class, we learned about leisure and lifestyle, right?
My students: right
Me: now, some of you said that you enjoyed doing sports. Let's see
how good you are at answering the following questions I'm going
to ask about sport/s
Me: How often do the Winter Olympics happen?
A boy at the back stood up and exclaimed, "every winter"
(I explained the right answer)
Me: Who starts in the game of chess: the black or the white
player. BTW, I'm sure you know what chess is.
"Gam bei/gan bei" was the answer in unison.
(Dear me, they thought I asked them cheers.Done with the explanation).
Me: so who starts in the game of chess?
A student: teacher, letter "b" comes first, so I think the black player
starts first before the white player because that is "w".
Geezzzz whizzz...
And when I asked how a 100 metres race starts, another boy blurted out,
"by running", followed by a classmate of his saying, "imagine that
teacher, he knows".

Oh how colorful life is.
