There are still many poor farming families in China. Some of the more attractive wives, most of whom have a child, or children, leave the farms for the big cities. They stay in third-rate hotels and go 'on the game' while their husbands stay on the farm and raise the children. Those 'easy catches' are mostly sleeping with Chinese traveling salesmen, but they're available for foreign teachers too. Westerners are by no stretch of the imagination the cause of the problem nor the only ones taking advantage of those unfortunate women's poverty. And their Chinese husbands know what they're at, and accept it's necessary!
