Re: China Unicom

I have my own computer and quite a fast USB modem internet surf stick from WCDMA in China. And I have a China Unicom card inside that cost me 750 Yuan RMB for about a year. It works well for me, the speed rate is between 5.76 and 7.2 mbps. It works all over China and makes me independent from any other provider like a school, hotel or whatever.

Just this morning I went and bought a white usb internet surf stick with WCDMA as advised by my China Unicom branch office. Went back to said branch office, bought a prepaid rechargeable 3g sim card, put it inside and bear in mind I am not using windows but ubuntu linux, went to mobile broadband settings, inserted uninet as the APN,left password blank and now I have a high speed portable connection!

Thanks Turnoi for your input, this is very useful if the campus network goes down, and you are not tied to any one location to go online. Also means you can avoid coffee shops/net bars.....cheers!
