From what I've heard if your school is in some provinces you can still do the Hong Kong Z visa run, but if your school is in other provinces you can't. The Z visa must be secured in your home country. Sorry, can't remember for which provinces it is still allowed. Ask the bureaucrats in Hong Kong.
