Re: (Midnight) Runners

PS, I'm sure Turnoi will vouch for me in this regard if you happen to distrust my good words, won't you Turnoi?

A brilliant piece of Dickensian English and British sarcasm at its best- but I am not being sarcastic, believe me-pure poetry in a sentence, which non native English speakers just cannot emulate; at least almost always the case, because Turnoi seems to have a way with words; but he's a bit of a one-off.

What about these 'pretend schools' who farm you out to middle schools; should one work for one? I would say yes, but just want to know what you think?

I'd say be wary. Do your homework first. The Beijing-based ones tend to be the greediest, not surprising, really.
I've butted in here coz Turnoi is an academic, and has therefore had little involvement with the seedier side of EFL in China, unlike the likes of you and I, ourselves being non-academics.
You needn't thank me for my intervention - I'm more than happy to be of service.

Re: (Midnight) Runners

Agents are a very special group of crooks in Chinese ESL, and by far the worst. They sell you out to schools and "schools", you have a contract with them and not the schools they are sending you to. They get all the money from the schools or "schools" for your work but pocket the largest part themselves. Some of them call themselves falsely "schools" (although they are not) misleading you on purpose to cover up their agent status. Who really wants to work for these clowns after having been screwed by them?

HELEN TEFL Network, based in Hangzhou, is an instructive example.

Thank you, Turnoi, now we are getting somewhere. Therefore, any agent or outfit which calls themselves a school, is a 'pretend school' and a pile of shit; is that some-thing you can confirm, please? What about these 'pretend schools' who farm you out to middle schools; should one work for one? I would say yes, but just want to know what you think?
