honest school in Qingdao - ESL discussion

Hi - Can't really help you with an honest school in Qingdao, but I can advise to you be careful about accepting a job there without extensive details. The cost of living there is pretty high complared to most cities in China and the pay you can expect doesn't reflect that. Also, they like to advertise their schools based on the reputation of Qingdao as a great city; unfortunately, many of them are not actually in Qingdao city. I had the misfortune once of accepting a job with PSB, a Singapore based business college. The school turned out to be in Huangdao, which is an Economic Development Zone far removed from Qingdao and a very polluted, boring, and basically ugly place to hang out. Add to that the extreme dishonesty and deceit of PSB and, well, to put it mildly, it was not a pleasant experience and I had to bolt out of there after a few months.
As far as Qingdao goes, I wasn't all that impressed. I'd heard many nice things about the city, so wanted to teach there myself. Basically, it's just another big city still going through the throes of change from old to modern. There are some beautiful places to visit outside of the city however. One more thing,if you're planning on living anywhere in that local, you better enjoy the wind. There's a brutally cold wind blowing in from the Yellow Sea, a wind that cools you in the summer but freezes you the rest of the year.
Now, having said all that, if you'd like a good job in Yunnan Province, I can help you out. Good pay and great benefits. I wouldn't advise anyone to give out their standard email address in this or any other forum, but if you open up an email account where you could receive one message from me before closing it, I'll send you the details. You would be working for one of the few truly honest employers I've found in China, and it would be a great first time teaching opportunity for you. If you're interested, post a message here in this forum to me -jinchafa - and I'll respond quickly. The job begins in September.
Whatever you decide, good luck.

Working in Qingdao - ESL discussion

Has anyone out there worked in Qingdao. If so, can you recommend an honest school there? I am seeking my first ESL Teaching Assignment. I am a Canadian with a BA from the US.
