You have to also factor in the working hours to see if 6k is worth it. If I were to work at a language mill for 8k a month working 40 hours than it would not be worth it to work here. Now I earn 6.3 K for working 13 hours a week for a public middle school. I do work 35 hours a week now, but I work as a private tutor; that has raised my salary 2.5 times. You add a free apartment and low taxes, and I live better here now than the USA. I know teachers here that earn 30 k a month. But they teach more specialized courses like IELTS and the GRE, or work at an international school.
IN the U.S.A. I would be earning 3 times minimum wage in Oregon, and that would still not be enough. Fifty-percent of my salary went into paying taxes and for rent.
Once you get to know how to increase your income here, it is ok.

The salary doesn't attract me.. It never has, and never will.. I came from America..I didn't like it.. I believe the more conscience you become, the less money matters..I came here to grow as a person, and to help kids gain an advantage in their lives..I mean, even if your'e a "clown" for 45 minutes a session, those kids will not forget you, and will have stories to share in the future.. I do agree though, if you came here for money..You should have stayed home.
No offence, but you aren't exactly going to save the world by teaching English and China isn't the impoverished place that it once was, in most areas at least. There's other areas of the world in far greater need of such help.
To be honest, English isn't really the most important skill for the vast majority of Chinese students, plenty of people get filthy rich without it. For many, it just helps them pass the Gaokao and that's about it.
