Macao was still under Portuguese rule then

I would venture (not meaning to disagree!) from two recent visits, that Macau is and was always more "portuguese" in influence than HK was "british". The cultural legacy in Macau shines through in the food and the wine and that distinctive Macanese culture, a real mix of portuguese and chinese.

Granted, it is now an SAR like HK, but I still see more ties to portugal with Macau, than any connection that HK may ever have had with the UK.
