Re: Christmas Dinner Plans

The bigger cities, and of course HK are getting better in that regard.

In nanjing in Auchan supermarket there was a full selection of imported cheeses, with the accompanying price tags of course:(

Re: Christmas Dinner Plans

Might be alright, I used to go to 100 rmb Christmas and New Year functions in Guangxi when I was working there. They were ok. In most second-tier Chinese cities there are usually only two or three decent Western restaurants. Even Shanghai is not up there yet. Many "upmarket" cafes in China are very overrated.
It is trying to source fresh, affordable quality ingredients that is the problem. In Australia and also many parts of England and New Zealand it is not a problem.

I really miss Australian fresh produce when I'm in Asia. People in Australia, especially places like Darwin and Hobart are so lucky. A plentiful supply of green, clean food, from an almost still pristine environment.

Tell me about it. When I go back to England at Christmas these days, a quality cheese overdose occurs.
