The best thing, like in any country, is to avoid bars and late night seedy places. Play where trash hangs out, and you will attract trash. I'd still say bars in China are safer by and large than pubs and clubs in the UK, as long as one minds ones ps and qs....personally I cant stand bars, too noisy and smoky.
